Flowing with the Hudson River’s rich history, ecology, and myth, “Hyundai Terrace Commission: Marina Zurkow: The River is a Circle” transforms Whitney Museum’s terrace into a living ecosystem.
Zurkow’s hand-drawn animations shift with the seasons and time of day, mapping the river’s and the Meatpacking District’s layered histories across a dynamic screen. Nearby, reef ball sculptures echo the riverbed below, offering tactile connections between land, water, and city. This site-specific work invites viewers to reflect on a circular economy and a potentially positive return to more modest ways of caring for the Earth.
