2025 Nissan Pathfinder
Starting at: $37.790–$50.030
HIGHS: Handsome exterior styling, roomy and quiet interior, good max tow rating.
LOWS: Rock Creek Edition looks rugged but isn’t, steep pricing for upper trims, dynamically aloof.
VERDICT: Its quiet, comfy cabin and towing capability get the job done, but the Pathfinder lacks genuine off-road skills and driving passion.
Overview
The Nissan Pathfinder has served many roles in its near 40-year history, from its early incarnation as a crude but capable off-roader to its minivan-esque fourth generation. Now in its fifth generation, the 2025 Pathfinder sits somewhere in the middle. It offers a spacious and comfortable cabin with a quiet ride, but even the Rock Creek Edition, its most rugged trim, can’t match the off-road moves of the Ford Bronco, Jeep Grand Cherokee, or Toyota Land Cruiser. It’s far more content performing routine family tasks, and the standard third-row seat means there’s room for eight, or seven with the available second-row captain’s chairs. The standard V-6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission are competent if not remarkable, but the 6000-pound maximum towing capacity is one of the best in the class, beating out rivals such as the Hyundai Palisadeand Toyota Highlander. Still, the mid-size SUV segment is flush with quality options, and many of them offer better value or more specific skill set than the Pathfinder.
